The Cong Xuan 从铉

Cong Xuan (1443–?) was a native of Anlu during the Ming Dynasty.

His courtesy name was Youxuan, and his literary name was Dingxi.

He was born with an otherworldly demeanor like that of an immortal, and had a particular fondness for the doctrines of Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) and Laozi—core to Taoist thought.

When he grew up, his parents intended to arrange a marriage for him, but Cong Xuan firmly declined. He then traveled to Mount Taihe, Mount Song, and Mount Hua as a wandering Taoist.

During his travels, he encountered an extraordinary person (a hermit with profound Taoist knowledge) who taught him the method of refining the "Great Return Elixir" (a legendary alchemical potion in Taoism, believed to grant immortality or longevity). After that, he retreated to a seclusion to practice Taoism, and eventually attained immortality and ascended (according to Taoist legend).
