Dai Dao'an (?-1321)

Dai Dao'an lived in the Yuan Dynasty and styled himself Hefu. He became a Taoist monk when he was a child and claimed to have studied under Wang Wenqing as his mentor.

Later, he traveled around the country and met the Kaifu Grand Master at Chongzhen (Taoist Temple). He then became the Grand Master’s disciple, attending to his needs diligently even in wind and snow, and never slackened in his duties.

He was appointed as the Tidian (a Taoist temple administrator) of Longrui Palace and was ordered by the imperial court to offer incense and perform sacrificial rituals at Wudang Mountain and Taoyuan (Taoist Temple).

Subsequently, he took up the post of Zhuchi (abbot) of Taoyuan Palace.

By nature, Dai Dao'an was unconstrained and free from rigid conventions. He enjoyed drinking but never neglected his official duties.

In the first year of the Zhizhi reign period (1321), he passed away. His disciple Li Liqian succeeded him and took charge of the affairs of the temple.
