Deng Dongyan was a figure of the Qing Dynasty. His Taoist title was Guyinzi, and he was officially registered as a Taoist priest of Hansan Palace in Wuchang.

He was proficient in the art of fuluan jishu (a Taoist divination practice involving a "spirit-writing" ritual where a pointer, often shaped like a phoenix or bird, is used to inscribe messages believed to be from deities or spirits). He compiled Cantong Jing (The Scripture of Unifying and Aligning), which was passed down to later generations. (Source: The Complete Works of Ancestor Lü)
