The Guo Shixian 郭世贤

Guo Shixian (1729–1773) was a native of Liuyang, Hunan Province, during the Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Rongfang, and he was posthumously honored with the title "True Person Zhaoxian".

In his youth, he lost his father and lived in poverty, but he was extremely filial to his mother. After his mother passed away, he went to Wudang Mountain to practice the bigu technique (a Taoist practice of abstaining from grain). Later, he retreated to seclusion at Zushi Rock in Dadongguang Cave, Liuyang, where he cultivated the Taoist doctrines and practices of the Quanzhen School.

Guo Shixian passed away in the 38th year of the Qianlong reign (1773) at the age of 45. The local people built a temple to enshrine him, and his spirit was said to have responded to prayers with frequent efficacy. During the Xianfeng reign (1851–1861), Governor Luo Bingzhang submitted a memorial to the imperial court, requesting that Guo be officially conferred the title "True Person Zhaoxian".
