The author is unknown.

Judging from its content and wording, it should have been compiled by Taoist priests during the Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty periods.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in The Daozang (the authoritative collection of Taoist scriptures), specifically categorized under ritual texts in The Dongzhen Section (the True Reality Division).
Claiming to be dictated by the Supreme Lord, this repentance scripture is used for atoning sins, eliminating disasters, and seeking ascension to immortality. It records the titles of fifty Yuqing Heavenly Honored Ones and the format of repentance texts.

It states: For all male and female initiates, as well as devout believers, "if they do not repent of their past grievances and karmic debts, they shall never be admitted to the Jade Court or inscribed in the Golden Register".

If one can offer incense, flowers, seasonal fruits, and banners with lamps before the statue of the Supreme Lord, submit to and faithfully venerate the Heavenly Honored Ones, and perform repentance, they can deliver their nine generations of ancestors, bring blessings to their descendants, and achieve ascension to immortality.
