The Ji Zhitong 吉志通

Ji Zhitong, styled Xizhenzi, was a native of Fuyang in Shaanxi during the transition between the Song and Yuan dynasties.

From a young age, he was exceptionally intelligent and perceptive. He studied under Qiao Qiandao and Pan Qingrong, and became a learned scholar with extensive knowledge. Later, he resided on Mount Wudang. For ten years, he did not consume regular food, surviving only on huangjing (Polygonatum sibiricum, a Chinese medicinal herb often used in Taoist ascetic practices) and cangzhu (Atractylodes lancea, another medicinal herb). Despite this ascetic lifestyle, he remained mentally sharp and clear, and could walk as swiftly as flying.

In the first year of the Zhiyuan era (1264), he passed away without suffering from any illness.
