Li Yiquan was a native of Junzhou (now part of Hubei Province) at the end of the Yuan Dynasty.
He became a Taoist monk at Zixiao Palace on Mount Wudang from an early age.

In the late Yuan Dynasty, he traveled extensively to famous mountains and great rivers, seeking Taoism and visiting teachers.
Later, he went to Linwu Dongtian (Linwu Grotto-Heaven) and received the transmission of the Taiji Great Dao (Supreme Way of Taiji) and the Essential Methods of Qingwei from Wang Wuwei.
Afterwards, he returned to reside at Zixiao Rock to practice spiritual refinement and vital energy cultivation.
He passed away at the age of over eighty.
