The Li Zhitian 李志田

The Li Zhitian 李志田

Paul Peng
Li Zhitian was a native of Taigu, Taiyuan Prefecture, in the early Yuan Dynasty.

His courtesy name was Zundao, and his literary name was Ziranzi (Master of Nature).

As recorded in The Stele of the Three Elders in the Same Temple: "Li Zhitian was from a farming family. After reaching the age of twenty (the 'Weak Crown' year in ancient China, marking adulthood), he renounced secular life to become a Taoist monk. He traveled alone for ten thousand li, seeking out Taoist masters to study under, and gained a thorough understanding of the Quanzhen School (a major Taoist school). Later, he met several revered Taoist masters, including those titled Changchun, Qinghe, and Zhenchang. Subsequently, he took up duties related to Taoist rituals and administrative affairs (referred to as 'Falu Gangan' in Taoist terms) and accomplished extraordinary merits and remarkable deeds."
