The Yellow Silk Chapter Method of Refining and Redeeming the Five Immortals, Pacifying Spirits and Stabilizing Gods in the Numinous Treasure Tradition has an unknown author.
Judging from its content and writing style, it is presumably compiled by Taoist priests during the Southern and Northern Dynasties or the Sui and Tang dynasties. It is included in the Orthodox Unity Section of Daozang (the Taoist Canon).

This text expounds the method of summoning the Five Great Mountains Immortals to pacify spirits, stabilize gods and redeem the souls of the deceased. It contains the chapter text for refining and redeeming the deceased, which is written on yellow silk—hence the name "Yellow Silk Chapter".
It is claimed that if this chapter text is placed in the deceased’s residence (tomb) in accordance with the rituals, the soul of the deceased can be stabilized, either reincarnated as a living person or ascended to heaven to become a deity. The end of the text attaches recorded cases of the method’s efficacy.
