Lü Yuansu was a native of Jiangyuan (now Chongqing, Sichuan Province) during the Southern Song Dynasty. His courtesy name was Pu'an, and he was a Taoist priest from Xishu (the western part of Sichuan Basin).
He compiled Customs and Rules of the Taoist School (Daomen Dingzhi), a ten-volume work, by compiling Taoist texts from the Six Dynasties period as well as the ritual codes for Taoist fasting ceremonies created by Zhang Wanfu and Du Guangting of the Tang Dynasty. This book is a comprehensive collection of standards and norms for Taoist fasting and sacrificial rituals.
