The Nine Goblets Lamp Rites

The author is unknown. It was probably compiled during the Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty periods. Consisting of one scroll, it is included in The Daozang (the authoritative collection of Taoist scriptures), specifically categorized under ritual texts in The Dongzhen Section (the True Reality Division).
As one of the Taoist lamp rituals, this text is used for dispelling disasters and transcending the deceased. Taoist practitioners light nine divine goblet lamps in sequence toward the nine directions in accordance with the positions of the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams, enshrining deities including the Three Pure Ones, the Four Heavenly Emperors, the Ten Directions Savior Heavenly Honored Ones, the Nine Provinces Divine Lords, and the Underworld Judges of the Nine Hells. They pay homage and offer praises, praying that the Nine-Yang Brahma Qi will shine upward upon the blessed halls of all heavens, middleward upon the territories of the nine provinces, and downward upon the nine tiers of hells.

Wherever the Yang radiance reaches, demons and evils shall hide and vanish, fierce disasters shall be eliminated, the tortures of hells shall be broken, sinful souls shall be liberated, and both the living and the deceased shall obtain blessings.
