The Secret Remnants of the Inner Scripts of the Three Emperors

The author is unknown.

Judging from its content and wording, it appears to be compiled and adapted by Taoist priests of the Tang and Song dynasties from works of the Six Dynasties period, such as The Scripture of the Three Emperors, The Supreme Lord’s Yellow God Yuezhang Scripture and The Inner Chapters of Baopuzi. It is a one-volume text included in the "Original Texts of the Cave Divine Section" of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

The opening of the volume features a preface written by the Purple Star Taoist.

The main text is divided into three chapters—Upper, Middle and Lower—corresponding to the Inner Scripts of the Heavenly, Earthly and Human Emperors respectively, with most of the content consisting of incantations.

It claims that upholding and reciting the texts in accordance with the proper methods, or writing them down to wear on one’s person, burying them underground, or burning them to ingest the ashes, can ward off death and protect life, repel wild beasts and evil spirits when entering mountains, summon divine protection, attract wealth and cure diseases, among other effects.

Following the main text is The Secret Seals of the Taiqing Yellow God Yuezhang, which are divine seals and talismans used by early Heavenly Master Taoism to subdue ghosts and eradicate plagues.

Also included are excerpts from Baopuzi discussing the divine seals of the Yellow God Yuezhang, as well as the true form talismans of the Five Great Mountains.
