The author of The Secret of Controlling Life by the True Person of Taiqing is unknown.
Judging from its content, it should have been created during the Six Dynasties period.

In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was recorded as "One Volume of Luoming" in Secret Catalogue. It was also listed as a one-volume work in History of the Song Dynasty·Treatise on Arts and Literature.
Today, it is included in the "Royal Secrets Category" of the "Dongzhen Section" in the Taoist Canon.
The text mainly discusses the method of restraining and retaining the soul and the body spirits. It states that each of the five viscera and four limbs of a person has a corresponding divine entity, and the soul, body, and form are connected to heaven, earth, the sun, and the moon. If one can restrain and keep the soul from leaving the body, and visualize the five viscera and all the spirits within the body, they can cure diseases and become an immortal.
