The Shangqing Huachen Sanben Yujue 上清华晨三奔玉诀

The author of The Jade Formula of the Three Races at the Flower Morning in Shangqing is unknown.

Judging from the content and writing style, it should have been composed by Taoist priests of the Shangqing School during the Southern and Northern Dynasties or the Sui and Tang Dynasties.

It is a one-volume work, included in the "Jade Formula Category" of the "Dongxuan Section" in the Taoist Canon.

The scripture talks about the way of observing stars, watching celestial qi, preserving the spirit, and ascending to heaven.

The so-called "Three Races at the Flower Morning" refers to the Beichen Star (Polaris), the Fu Star, and the Bi Star under the Huagai Star (Canopy Star). These stars belong to the Purple Forbidden Enclosure (Ziwei Yuan) of the North Pole. It is said that the Beichen Star is the true star of the Jade Emperor, the Fu Star is the essence of the Later Sage Emperor of the Taiping Golden Palace, and the Bi Star is the spirit of the Jade Venerable of the Taiwei Heavenly Emperor.

Taoist practitioners should, when the three stars appear, bow nine times towards the north. They should close their eyes and visualize that each of the three stars emits purple light and jade-colored qi, which flows down and permeates their bodies, making their bodies shine in the same radiance as the stars.

Next, practitioners should knock their teeth and recite incantations to each of the three stars respectively. They should visualize the flowing light from the stars pouring down, and a baby (a symbol of the inner spirit) coming before them, then ascending to heaven together with the baby.

By diligently practicing this method for five years, one can inspire the true presence of the Later Sage to descend. After seven years of practice, one can travel freely in the heavenly realm, with "the three emperors coming down to meet and merging their forms to ascend together".
