The author is unknown.

It was probably compiled during the Yuan Dynasty or the early Ming Dynasty.
Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Weiyi (Rituals and Etiquette) category of The Dongzhen Section in the Daoist Canon.

As one of the Taoist lamp rituals, this text is used for praying for disaster elimination, blessings, longevity, and protection of life. Practitioners light lamps to worship the Six True Lords of Nandou (the Southern Dipper), perform rituals of reverence and eulogy, and pray for relief from misfortunes, acquisition of blessings, and the extension and preservation of life.

The Six True Lords of Nandou are:

  • True Lord of Protecting the Nation, Supreme Minister of Destiny in the Heavenly Mansion of Nandou, Great Sage of Mingde Palace;
  • True Lord of Guarding the Prison, Supreme Minister of Official Fortune in the Heavenly Ministerate of Nandou, Great Sage of Dongwen Palace;
  • True Lord of Extending Life and Protecting Life, Heavenly Beam of Nandou, Great Sage of Roude Palace;
  • True Lord of Increasing Blessings and Safeguarding Health, Heavenly Harmony of Nandou, Great Sage of Baoguang Palace;
  • True Lord of Overcoming Calamities, Wenchang (God of Literature) of Refining Souls, Heavenly Pivot of Nandou, Great Sage of Tianjie Palace;
  • True Lord of Judicial Administration, Supervisor of Birth Records, Heavenly Mechanism of Nandou, Great Sage of Dasheng Palace.
