Sun Defu (1218–1273)

Sun Defu lived during the Jin and Yuan dynasties. He held the literary name "Tongxuan".

In the fifth year of the Zhiyuan era (1268), he took charge of the Zhen Da Dao Jiao (Perfect Great Way Sect, a major Taoist school in the Jin and Yuan dynasties) and served as its sixth patriarch, governing the sect’s branches across various regions.

He passed away in the tenth year of the Zhiyuan era (1273) at the age of fifty-six. Having overseen the Zhen Da Dao Jiao for fifteen years, details of his life and deeds can be found in The History of the Yuan Dynasty: Biographies of Buddhist and Taoist Monks and Chen Yuan’s A Study of the New Taoist Sects in Hebei in the Early Southern Song Dynasty.
