The Supreme Maternal Protection Scripture 太上说六甲直符保胎护命妙经

The Supreme Lord Speaks the Wonderful Scripture of the Six Jia Direct Talismans for Fetal Protection and Life Safeguarding The author is unknown, and the text is believed to have been composed sometime between the Tang and Song dynasties.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Text Category of the Dongzhen Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

Purportedly told by Yuanshi Tianzun (the Primeval Lord of Heaven) to the Perfected One Yin Xi, this scripture states that difficult labor in mortal women is caused by their disbelief in the Supreme Dao, disrespect for sacred scriptures, blind faith in evil spirits, and growing delusion of mind. As a result, benevolent deities do not lend their protection during childbirth, leaving them vulnerable to harassment by evil ghosts. If a pregnant woman cultivates merits and virtues in advance, sets up a Taoist altar, burns incense and pays homage, and recites this scripture, the deities of the Six Jia Direct Talismans will come to her protection, ensuring the peace and safety of the entire family.
