The Tai Xiao Langshu Qiongwen Dizhang Jue 太霄琅书琼文帝章诀

The author of The Essentials of the Great Heaven Jade Book: Jade Emperor’s Literary Scripture (Taixiao Langshu Qiongwen Di Zhang Jue) is unknown.

It was presumably composed by Taoist priests of the Shangqing School during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420–589 CE).

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the "Jade Essentials" category of the Dongzhen (True Grotto) Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

This text discusses the ritual procedures for transmitting The Supreme Great Heaven Jade Book: Jade Emperor’s Literary Scripture and is divided into two parts: Master-Disciple Ritual Practices and The Nine Disciplines of the Supreme Truth. The Master-Disciple Ritual Practices section contains the "Essentials for Transcribing the Scripture," "Essentials for Prayer and Announcement," "Essentials for Transmitting Taboo Names," and "Essentials for Ritual Offerings." It describes rituals such as transcribing the scripture, holding fasting ceremonies with prayers, and contemplating the names (to be avoided as taboos) of the scripture’s transmitting masters during the scripture transmission, as well as the ritual objects required for these practices.

The Nine Disciplines of the Supreme Truth section outlines the ritual precepts that must be observed during the transmission of the scripture.

As a note, The Great Heaven Jade Book: Jade Emperor’s Literary Scripture is one of the ancient Shangqing Scriptures.

This present text is included in the fifth scroll of The True Grotto Supreme Great Heaven Jade Book (ten scrolls total), which is collected in the Zhengyi (Orthodox Unity) Section of the Daozang.
