The Taishang Dongxuan Lingbao Baxianwang Jiaojie Jing 太上洞玄灵宝八仙王教诫经

Taishang Dongxuan Lingbao Baxianwang Jiaojie Jing (The Scripture of the Teachings and Admonitions of the Eight Immortals Kings of the Numinous Treasure of the Cavernous Mystery of the Supreme Oneness), the author of which is unknown.

Its content and wording are similar to those of Dongxuan Lingbao Daoyao Jing (The Scripture of the Essential Principles of the Dao of the Numinous Treasure of the Cavernous Mystery), and it was presumably compiled by Taoist practitioners between the Sui and Tang dynasties.

It consists of one scroll and is included in the Taiping Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

With the purpose of promoting filial piety, this scripture is pseudonymously attributed to the Primordial Heavenly Worthy issuing admonitions to the True Filial King (also titled the Utmost Filial True King). It states: "Filial piety is supremely great; it came into being together with the Primordial Origin, governs the Three Luminaries (sun, moon, and stars), and shines upon the dark night." Those who practice filial piety can free themselves from fears such as birth and death, dark obstacles, hunger and cold, attain the Dao in their current bodies, and ascend to the formless realm. In contrast, those who do not uphold filial piety will sink into hell, undergo endless samsara, and never have the chance to escape.

It also claims that if the wise kings of future generations govern the world with filial piety, they can bring peace to the family and the state, make all regions submit to their rule, and even ensure that no diseases arise, no poisons cause harm, no plants wither, wind and rain come in due seasons, farmland and sericulture yield abundant harvests, and all auspicious omens manifest.
