The Tianbao Fast Vigil Liturgy FULL NAME IS
The Initial Night Ritual of the Shangqing Tianbao Retreat
Author unknown.

Judging from its content and wording, it was likely composed by Taoist practitioners of the Shangqing Sect during the Song or Yuan Dynasty. Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Dongzhen Section (True Grotto Section) of the Daozang under the category of Rituals and Ceremonies.
The scroll opens with a short preface stating: "The Shangqing Tianbao Retreat is the essential secret for those who study the Dao to attain immortality. One may perform this retreat only after mastering the complete Shangqing methods." It further notes that this retreat method "first prays for blessings on emperors and sovereigns, then pleads for grace on behalf of ancestors, purges past flaws, repents for recent transgressions. When merits and practices are fulfilled, and virtue is abundant, one shall naturally attain immortality and ascend to the heavens in broad daylight."
The text first lists the ritual implements required for establishing the Tianbao Retreat, followed by the retreat procedures. The rituals include lighting lamps, entering the altar, chanting Taoist hymns, invoking the Three Teachers, offering incense, reciting divine incantations, intoning memorials, and declaring the Eight Vows.
