The Wang Laihuai 王来怀

Wang Laihuai (1667–?) was a native of Yanjing (present-day Beijing) in the early Qing Dynasty, and his literary name was Quechenzi.

From a young age, he believed in the Dongwanggong Sect (a Taoist-related tradition centered on the worship of Dongwanggong, the "King of the East," a deity in Chinese mythology).
He traveled west to the Guanzhong region, where he resided at Xuanzhen Nunnery in Yuquan Cave.

Subsequently, he ascended Mount Huayue (one of China’s Five Great Sacred Mountains), propagated his religious doctrines, and attracted a large gathering of Taoist followers.

On a daily basis, he treated people with acupuncture and herbal medicine to relieve their sufferings.

As recorded in Tai Shang Lü Mai Yuan Liu (Origin and Development of the Supreme Taoist Precepts), in the 6th year of the Yongzheng reign (1728), Wang Laihuai went to Mount Jingfu in Shaanxi Province to attend lectures on Taoist doctrinal traditions and received the Great Precepts (a core initiation ritual in Taoism).

In the 8th year of the Yongzheng reign (1730), Vinaya Master Yuan Qingju transmitted to him the profound Taoist teachings, along with the text Tai Shang Lü Mai Yuan Liu. Wang Laihuai cherished this text deeply and kept it in a stone chamber for preservation.

At the age of 64, at the invitation of the Great Perfected Li (a high-ranking Taoist title), he went to Yunmen Palace on Mount Emei in Jingyang County. There, he taught the Tao Te Ching, the Huangting Jing (Yellow Court Classic, a key Taoist scripture), and the doctrines of "Xuwu Qingjing" (Voidness, Non-being, and Purity—core concepts of Taoist cultivation).

He also held a ritual altar to confer precepts, aiming to promote the profound Taoist traditions.

Wang Laihuai was the 13th Vinaya Master for transmitting precepts (a Taoist title for clergy authorized to confer religious precepts).
