Wang Siwei was a native of Jianchang Prefecture (now Nancheng County, Jiangxi Province) during the early Ming Dynasty.

He studied under Wei Dayou and served as a Taoist priest at the temporary palace of Wudang Mountain. During the Hongwu reign, he was renowned for his exquisite Taoist practices and standardized ritual ceremonies.
