The Wang Yuanheng 王元亨

The Wang Yuanheng 王元亨

Paul Peng
Wang Yuanheng was a native of Yizhou (present-day Linyi County, Shandong Province) in the early Yuan Dynasty.

In his childhood, he studied Confucian classics and had a graceful and unrestrained demeanor. Liu Zhengqing highly valued him upon meeting him, so he imparted the esoteric teachings of the Taoist school to Wang.

When Wang grew up, he extensively studied classics and historical records. In the 10th year of the Dade reign (1306), he was awarded the Zijin Lan (a purple-gold sash, a symbol of imperial honor for Taoist officials), and appointed as the Taoist Administrator of Yizhou under the Yidu Circuit. He later served as the Chief Taoist Official, and was promoted to Gongmen Tipian (an official in charge of Taoist temple affairs). He was also conferred the title "Master Baozhen Heyi Chongzhen" (meaning "Master of Preserving Truth, Harmonizing Righteousness, and Advancing Truth") and held the position of Zhuchi Tipian (Chief Administrator) of Yuqing Wanshou Palace. During his life, he initiated more than a hundred disciples into Taoism.
