The Wang Yujing 王与敬

The Wang Yujing 王与敬

Paul Peng
Wang Yujing was a native of Fuzhou during the late Song and early Yuan dynasties.

In his youth, he became a Taoist monk. He traveled extensively to visit accomplished Taoist masters, and thus obtained the profound Lingbao Secret Methods (a crucial set of teachings in Taoism). He was skilled in Fu and Lu practices (Taoist rituals involving talismans and incantations to invoke spiritual powers). His Taoist arts—such as praying for rain to alleviate droughts, dispelling disasters, exorcising evil spirits, and warding off malevolent forces—were exceptionally exquisite.

In the second year of the Zhida reign of the Yuan Dynasty (1309), he requested to retire due to old age and returned to his former residence to live in seclusion. He passed away at the Zhizhi Hermitage in Mount Wuyi and was posthumously conferred the title of "Zhidao Xuanying Tongmiao Dharma Master" (a honorific title recognizing his virtue and Taoist attainments).
