Author unknown. It is believed to have been composed during the Song and Yuan dynasties.

Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Benwen Section of the Dongshen Division in the Daozang (Daoist Canon).

This scripture is a collection of divine incantations, exhorting people to recite the scripture and invoke the names of deities. It proclaims: "If you wish to ascend to the celestial realm and avoid falling into the netherworld, you must cultivate sincere intentions and pure mindfulness, and recite this scripture morning and evening. Recite it a hundred times, and your soul and spirit will be peaceful and stable; recite it a thousand times, and the dragon gods will guard your body; recite it ten thousand times, and you shall subdue and annihilate evil spirits. All your wishes shall be fulfilled, all your undertakings shall be accomplished, you shall subdue malicious ghosts and bind evil spirits."

The deities invoked in the scripture include Heavenly Master True Persons, Golden Boys and Jade Maidens, Heavenly Troops and Divine Warriors, Generals and Vajras, Dragon Kings and Thunder Gods, the Five Emperors and Five Great Mountains, as well as the Six Jia and Six Ding celestial generals. Notably, the name of Zhong Dou Da Kui (Grand Chief of the Central Dipper)—mentioned in the title—does not appear in the text.
