The Zhang Ti 张悌
Paul PengShare
Zhang Ti was a native of Xiangshan (present-day Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province) during the Yuan Dynasty. His courtesy name was Xinfu, and his literary name was Wuweizi.
In his early years, he associated with Taoist practitioners and heard about the theory of "longevity" (the Taoist concept of pursuing eternal life through spiritual cultivation). When he reached adulthood, he traveled to regions including Nanyue (southern Guangdong and Guangxi areas) in the south and Yan (northern Hebei and Beijing areas) in the north. Fascinated by the seclusion and profound aura of Wudang Mountain, he then became a Taoist priest and studied under Taoist Master Zhang (Zhang Shouqing), the abbot of Zixiao Palace.
