The Zhu Deming 朱德明

The Zhu Deming 朱德明

Paul Peng
Zhu Deming, styled Ziyu, was a native of Yingchuan during the Yuan Dynasty.

In his early childhood, he encountered the chaos of war and became a refugee, settling in the western part of Shaanxi (an ancient region roughly covering present-day central and northern Shaanxi).

At the age of nine, he paid respect to Li Tongyuan—who was from Taihua and the grandson of Danyang zi (a title referring to Ma Yu, one of the Seven True Ones of the Quanzhen Sect)—and studied the Quanzhen Sect under him. He became proficient in the knowledge of Taoist fasting rituals and ordination certificates (Zhai Lu).

Zhu Deming was intelligent by nature. Within less than a year, he had fully mastered all the skills and knowledge taught by his master.

During the Zhiyuan era (1264–1294) of the Yuan Dynasty, he served as the abbot of Chongling Temple, where the incense offerings (a symbol of devout worship from believers) were prosperous.
