Transcendent Scripture of Salvation - Commentary 太上升玄消灾护命妙经注 混然子注

Originally attributed to "Hunranzi of Xiujiang in Nanchang".

Hunranzi refers to Wang Daoyuan, a Taoist priest at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty.

Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Yujue (Jade Secrets) category of The Dongzhen Section in The Daozang.

With only over 300 characters, the scripture mainly expounds the doctrines of being and non-being, form and emptiness held by the Chongxuan (Double Mystery) School of Taoism during the Sui and Tang dynasties. Hunranzi’s annotations, however, focus on interpreting the scripture based on the theories of nature and life, as well as the purport of Internal Alchemy upheld by the Quanzhen School of the Jin and Yuan dynasties, making considerable extensions and elaborations on the original meaning of the scripture. An ode is attached after each section of the annotations to summarize the purport of the scripture.
