列仙传·偃伺

📖 Biographies of Immortals#6 of 70🌐 English & Chinese

原文 Original Chinese

偃伺者,槐山採藥父也,好食松實,形體生毛,長數寸,兩目更方,能飛行逐走馬。以松子遗堯,堯不暇服也。松者,簡松也。時人受服者,皮至二三百歲焉。

Woquan was a man who gathered herbs in Huaishan; he liked to eat pine seeds, and hair grew on his body, several inches long. His two eyes were square-shaped, and he could fly or run as fast as a galloping horse. He gave pine seeds to Yao, but Yao did not have time to take them. The pine refers to Jian Song. Those who took and consumed it at that time all lived to be two or three hundred years old — a remarkable result of Zhuji, the foundational practice of Taoist cultivation.

偃伺 Woquan

原文 Original Chinese

偃伺餓松,體逸矸方。足踏鬾鳳,走超騰驊。遗贈堯門,貳此神方。盡性可辞,中智宜將。

Woquan ate pine seeds; his body was agile, and his eyes were square-shaped. His feet could tread upon phoenixes and luanfeng, and he ran faster than a galloping steed. He left a gift at Yao's door, bequeathing this divine formula of cultivating the Tao. To exhaust one's nature is something that can be renounced; those of moderate wisdom should take it up — for as Taoism teaches, harmony with nature is the path to transcendence.
