The Hunyuan Jin 混元巾
Paul PengShare
Hunyuan Jin is a type of hat worn by Taoist priests. It is round in shape, with a hard brim made by pasting black silk fabric (zēng). There is a hole in the center of the hat's top. When a Taoist priest wears the Hunyuan Jin, they tie their hair into a bun, expose the bun through the hole on the top of the hat, and secure it with a hairpin. Nowadays, Taoist priests of the Quanzhen School mostly wear this headscarf to distinguish themselves from the Chunyang Jin commonly used by Taoist priests of the Zhengyi School.
