The Taiyang Jin 太阳巾
Paul PengShare
Taiyang Jin refers to a straw hat or palm-leaf hat. Taoist priests can wear this hat when working under the scorching sun in summer. Some Taoist priests, to distinguish themselves from people in society, cut a hole on the top of the hat to expose their hair buns, or paint Taoist patterns such as the Eight Trigrams and Taiji on the brim, or write the name of the Taoist temple where they reside.
