What is the Chanyi 忏衣
Paul PengShare
Chanyi is a type of Taoist robe, a common one worn by ordinary Taoist priests when performing rituals of worshipping scriptures and repenting. It is simple in making. In the Jinluo Taoist ceremonies, it is mostly purplish red; in the Huangluo Taoist ceremonies, it is mostly yellow.
Chanyi is made of cotton and linen. Except for the embroidery decorations such as cranes on the chest and back, there are either no brocade decorations on the body and sleeves, or there are Eight Trigrams patterns.
