The Wushang Dacheng Yaojue Miaojing 无上大乘要诀妙经

Paul Peng
Wushang Dacheng Yaojue Miaojing (The Wonderful Scripture of the Essential Instructions of the Supreme Mahayana), the author of which is unknown.

Judging from its content and wording, it seems to have been composed during the Sui and Tang dynasties.

It is one scroll and is included in the Text category of the Cavernous Truth section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

The scripture is pseudonymously attributed to the Primordial Heavenly Worthy imparting it to the Supreme Lord of the Dao. It describes the Three Realms as a burning house, and because all sentient beings fail to awaken, they are afflicted by birth, old age, illness, death, sorrow, grief, and distress. Although wealthy people who donate treasures accumulate boundless merits, this is still a Hinayana method. Only the Lingbao Scriptures are the most venerable among all scriptures, representing the supreme and ultimate method of the essential instructions of the Supreme Mahayana. Those in the world who receive or listen to this scripture will obtain various merits, while those who slander or disbelieve it will incur various disasters and misfortunes.
