Chi Jiangziyu was a person of the Yellow Emperor's time. He did not eat the five grains, but instead consumed the flowers of a hundred herbs — a practice related to fuqi, the Taoist art of absorbing natural qi. During the time of Emperor Yao, he worked as a carpenter. He was able to move up and down with the wind and rain; at times he sold birdlime in the marketplace, and people also called him Jiaofu.

The people of Zheng ate grains, enjoying cooked food and a long-lasting legacy. Ziyu rose above the common crowd, eating flower petals and drinking dew — unlike those who follow a vegetarian diet, his practice went far beyond ordinary dietary rules. He entrusted his body to wind and rain, walking aloofly with a lofty gait. The clouds above are suitable for travel; life and destiny can be transcended.
