Lie Xian Zhuan — 馬師皇 (Ma Shihuang)
列仙传·馬師皇
原文 Original Chinese
Ma Shihuang was a horse doctor during the time of the Yellow Emperor. He understood how to diagnose whether a horse would live or die based on its physical condition, and whenever he treated them, they were always cured. Later, a dragon came down, bowing its head and opening its mouth toward him. Huang said, "This dragon is ill; I know that I can cure it." He then put his hand into the dragon's mouth and gave it a decoction of licorice to drink, and thus it was cured. Later, several dragons emerged from their waters repeatedly, informing him and seeking treatment. One day, a dragon carried Huang away and went off with him.
原文 Original Chinese
Shihuang managed horses; there were no crippled or broken-down horses in the stables. His expertise moved even the Dao of extraordinary creatures. The divine qiu dragon repaid his virtue by presenting itself with scales shimmering and holding the reins in its mouth. It leaped across the celestial river, leaving behind a brilliant and lingering radiance — a testament to the way of Taoism and its harmony with all living beings.
