Paul PengShare
In daily life, the Taoists we see all wear traditional costumes and keep long hair.
Why is that?
Wearing Traditional Costumes
The clothes worn by Taoists are also known as "Tang-style clothes" or "Han-style clothes". Taoist robes are loose and generous, with distinct national characteristics. Therefore, Taoists wear traditional costumes to show their tradition and nationality.
Keeping Beards and Long Hair
Taoists keep their beards and long hair for the following reasons:
Firstly, it serves as a symbol of their dedication to Taoism.
Secondly, it is to conform to the laws of nature.
Thirdly, it is to express the intention of fulfilling filial piety. Beards, sideburns and hair are bestowed by parents and should not be easily damaged.
Fourthly, it is for the purpose of health preservation. When people keep long hair, they need to comb it frequently, and frequent combing of the hair is beneficial to the blood circulation of the brain.
Therefore, Taoists often keep their beards and long hair.
