Gen represents a mountain; Dui represents a marsh. With the mountain above and the marsh below, the great marsh erodes the mountain's roots. Loss and gain alternate: within loss lies gain, and within gain lies loss. Between the two, one must treat them with utmost caution. Losing from the lower to benefit the upper—when governing a country, excess will damage the national foundation.
