He Xiangu, one of the Eight Immortals in Taoism, whose magic weapon is a lotus flower, is the only female among the Eight Immortals. There are many theories about He Xiangu's life experience. There are local He Xiangu legends in Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and other places. However, among the people, it is widely said that she was a girl surnamed He. On her way, she met an immortal, who gave her a magic peach or a magic date to eat, after which she became an immortal. Since then, she no longer felt hungry, could predict good and bad luck, and was good at flying with a light body. Another saying is that she was a disciple of Lü Dongbin.
Xianfo Qizong (Wondrous Traces of Immortals and Buddhas) says: He Xiangu was the daughter of He Tai from Zengcheng, Guangzhou. When she was born, there were six strands of hair on the top of her head. At the age of sixteen, she dreamed that an immortal taught her: "Eating mica powder can make your body light and enable you to live forever without aging." So she followed the immortal's instructions, ate mica, swore not to marry, and often traveled in the valleys, walking as fast as flying. He Xiangu went out every morning and brought back some wild fruits for her mother to eat in the evening. Later, she gradually stopped eating grains. Wu Zetian sent envoys to summon her to the palace, but she suddenly disappeared on the way to the capital, and then ascended to immortality in broad daylight.
In the ninth year of Tianbao in the Tang Dynasty (750), He Xiangu appeared at Magu Altar, standing among five clouds, and later appeared in the Small Stone Tower in Guangzhou. Duxing Magazine by Zeng Minxing of the Song Dynasty records: In his early years, Di Qing passed through Yongzhou while fighting against Nong in the south. Hearing that He Xiangu could predict good and bad luck, he specially went to ask about the result of the war. He Xiangu said: "You don't need to meet the enemy; the enemy will be defeated and flee." At first, Di Qing didn't believe it. Later, the vanguard of the Song army fought with the soldiers of Nong Zhigao in the south. After a few rounds, Zhigao was defeated and fled to the Dali Kingdom.
