Scripture of Heavenly Response: Laozi’s Law of Cosmic Justice, also known asTian Ying Jing (Scripture of Heavenly Response).

Author unknown. It is believed to have been composed around the period of the Northern and Southern Dynastiesor the Sui-Tang transition.

The original text consists of one volume, and it wasnot includedin theZhengtong Daozang(the Zhengtong-era Daoist Canon).

Currently, there exists one Dunhuang manuscript copy (collected in the Zhengsong Hall), which is intact from beginning to end and contains 90 lines of the scripture.

Purporting to record discourses delivered by Lord Laozi, this text advocates the doctrine ofinteraction between heaven and humanity. It asserts that those who perform good deeds shall surely receive good rewards, while those who commit evil deeds shall inevitably suffer evil retributions. As stated in the text:"Retributions for fortune and misfortune are like shadows following forms and echoes responding to sounds."
