Commentary on the Supreme One’s Wonderful Scripture of the Heavenly Boy Protecting Life from the Great Pure Realm

Compiled by Hou Shanyuan, a Taoist priest of the Jin Dynasty.

Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Commentaries Section of the Dongshen Division in the Daozang (Daoist Canon).

The Scripture of the Heavenly Boy originated in the Northern Song Dynasty. It advocates reciting scriptures and incantations, as well as using spiritual talismans to pray for divine blessings, so as to protect one’s life and nurture one’s health. After each verse of the scripture, Hou appended a four-line poem in heptasyllabic meter. These poems expound either on talismanic magic or internal alchemy, with their underlying theme roughly centered on the principle of "having both nature and destiny fully realized, and possessing complete essence, qi, and spirit".
