Sun Jingzhen was a native of Guixi (now part of Jiangxi Province) during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Yuan Dynasty.
He was a Daoist priest at Chongxi Courtyard of Longhu Mountain.
His courtesy name was Dehong, and his literary name was Wenxuan.

As recorded in Chronicle of Longhu Mountain: In the Dade period (of the Yuan Dynasty), he followed the Celestial Master Zhang to the imperial court for an audience with the emperor. He was officially appointed as "Tongzhen Ningmiao Hongdao Dharma Master" and held the position of supervisor of Zhenyuan Palace.
During the Yanyou period (of the Yuan Dynasty), he was ordered by the emperor to construct Chongxi Palace. Later, he was promoted to "Gaoshi of the Daoist Circle" (a senior and virtuous Daoist scholar) and concurrently took charge of Daoist affairs.
