The Celestial Transmission-Memorial Rite FULL NAME IS
Originally attributed to "Master Guangcheng Du Guangting, compiler". Compiled by Du Guangting in the late Tang Dynasty, it was adapted from the Taoist talismans and precepts of the Northern and Southern Dynasties or the early Tang Dynasty.
This scripture elaborates on the rituals for the transmission of Taoist scriptures, precepts and talismans including The Venerable Scripture of the Dao and Virtue, The Precious Purple Void Talisman, Commentary by He Shanggong and Essential Precepts of Xiang'er. These rituals consist of the ceremony in which a master transmits the scriptures to his disciples, as well as the ceremony of presenting memorials to express gratitude by the disciples three days after receiving the scriptures, all prescribed with complete ritual protocols.
The Tang Dynasty witnessed the finalization of such canonical transmission rituals, and this work stands as a representative text of the ritual norms system for Taoist ordination in the late Tang period.
