Chen Defu était un personnage ayant vécu sous les dynasties Jin et Yuan .

Il reçut officiellement le titre de « Chongren Xubai Mingyi Dashi » (un titre honorifique de haut rang dans le taoïsme , signifiant approximativement « Maître de la vénérable bienveillance, de la pureté absolue et de la brillante droiture ») par décret impérial. Il a été l'abbé du Tiantan Da Ziwei Gong (Grand Palais Ziwei de Tiantan, où « Tiantan » désigne un autel sacré et « Ziwei » est associé à l'Enceinte Pourpre Interdite dans l'astronomie chinoise traditionnelle, symbolisant souvent la noblesse et la divinité) et a occupé le poste de « Tidian » (un poste administratif et de supervision dans les anciens temples taoïstes) du Qingxu Xiaoyou Dongtian Tie'an Longxiang Gong (Palais Qingxu Xiaoyou Dongtian Tie'an Longxiang, où « Xiaoyou Dongtian » est l'un des « Trente-six Petits Ciels Grottes » de la cosmologie taoïste, représentant un royaume taoïste sacré, et « Tie'an » fait probablement référence à un nom de lieu ou à une caractéristique du temple ).
