Hu Yongcong était un personnage de la dynastie Song du Nord, connu sous le nom littéraire de Chongzhenzi.
Il était un taoïste enregistré au palais Taiping Xingguo sur le mont Lushan. Comme indiqué dans le volume 50 de Lishi Zhenxian Tidao Tongjian (Le Miroir complet des véritables immortels et de leur culture du Dao ), Hu Yongcong devint moine taoïste dans sa jeunesse et se consacra à la foi taoïste.

Durant l'ère Xining de l'empereur Shenzong de la dynastie Song (1068-1077), il rencontra un être extraordinaire (un ermite ou un immortel selon la tradition taoïste) qui lui enseigna l'art du huangbai shu (une pratique alchimique taoïste traditionnelle visant à transmuter les métaux vils en or ou en argent, et associée à la préparation d'élixirs de longévité). Plus tard, il atteignit l'immortalité taoïste et s'éleva au royaume céleste, selon la croyance taoïste.
