The Nine Hells Compassion Liturgy full name is
The Repentance Scripture of Supreme Compassion Dharma Assembly for Dispelling Disasters and Redeeming the Nine Underworlds
Originally attributed to "Ge Xuan, the Left Immortal Lord of Taiji" as its compiler, textual research indicates that it was actually compiled by Li Hanguang, a Taoist priest of the Shangqing Sect during the Tang Dynasty. Consisting of ten scrolls, it is included in The Daozang (the authoritative collection of Taoist scriptures), categorized under ritual texts in the Dongxuan Division.

The entire text is divided into forty-three sections, which compile the relevant repentance rituals of the Compassion Dharma Assembly for Dispelling Disasters and Redeeming the Nine Underworlds from the Three Grottoes Scriptures of Taoism respectively. The ritual structure of each section is roughly identical: it opens with the Taoist master preaching scriptures, followed by expounding doctrines and confessing sins, paying homage to the Heavenly Honored Ones and True Immortals of the ten directions, and concludes with dedicating merits and making wishes. The core purpose of the text is to expound Taoist scriptures and doctrines to the penitents, elaborate on karmic retribution and the origin of sins, urge them to venerate the Heavenly Honored Ones and True Immortals of the ten directions and repent for their transgressions, and pray for the Heavenly Honored Ones to bestow great compassion, save both the living and the deceased, and deliver the penitents’ nine generations of ancestors, seven generations of distant relatives, as well as kinsmen and relatives from the Three Evil Paths, enabling them all to attain the Taoist path. It also prays for the eternal stability of the imperial state and the prosperity of the nation and its people. The scriptures expounded in the text are mainly based on the Scripture of Ascending to Mysticism.
