Shi Zhongyuan , originaire de Guilin dans le Guangxi sous la dynastie Song , était également connu sous son nom littéraire de Guihuazi.
Dans sa jeunesse, il devint prêtre taoïste et vécut en ermite à Qixingyan (la grotte des Sept Étoiles).

Il était doué pour l'écriture de poésie et de prose, et la plupart de ses œuvres exposaient les doctrines profondes du taoïsme .
Il décéda des suites d'une maladie durant l'ère Tianxi de l'empereur Zhenzong de la dynastie Song (1017-1021) et laissa derrière lui un recueil d'œuvres intitulé Guihua Ji (La collection de Guihua).
