The Wonderful Scripture of Karmic Fate of the Supreme Cavern Mysterious Numinous Treasure

It is one of the ancient Numinous Treasure Scriptures of Taoism, probably compiled during the Northern and Southern Dynasties or the Sui and Tang dynasties.

It was recorded in Jiang Shuyu’s Catalogue of Scriptures for Pacifying and Safeguarding the Altar of Fasting.

Consisting of one scroll, it was included in the category of "Original Texts" in the Cavern Mysterious Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).

This scripture is pseudonymously presented as a dialogue between the Supreme Lord of the Dao and Yin Sheng (Yin Xi), expounding on karmic fate and retribution for good and evil deeds.

The scripture is divided into seven sections: the Six Virtues, the Six Kindnesses, the Seven Vices, the Five Kindnesses, the Five Evils, the Five Virtues, and the Six Omens of Misfortune.

Among them, the Six Virtues refer to refraining from killing, stealing, adultery, deception, alcohol consumption, and maintaining reverence. Those who practice these six deeds will be reborn above celestial beings and roam freely as immortals.

The Six Kindnesses include almsgiving, observing precepts, enduring humiliation, exhorting others to virtue, upholding the Dharma, and cherishing all lives. Those who perform these six acts will be reborn among humans, enjoying constant wealth and honor and having their wishes fulfilled.

The Seven Vices are being unfilial and disloyal, reviling virtuous people, disrespecting the Three Jewels (or Three Worthies), denying the existence of ghosts and gods, slandering ghosts and gods, rebelling against authority, and acting tyrannically and perversely. Those who commit these seven vices will suffer disasters in life and fall into hell after death.

The scripture further states that those who practice the Five Kindnesses will achieve the status of earthly immortals; those who commit the Five Evils will sink into the animal realm; those who uphold the Five Virtues will be respected and valued by others; and those who incur the Six Omens of Misfortune will be born as lowly people, constantly enduring hunger and cold, and so on.
