Tang Zixia était originaire du Zhejiang et vivait à la fin de la dynastie Song du Nord.

Comme indiqué dans Répertoire géographique du Zhejiang ( Zhejiang Tongzhi ) : Sous l'ère Zhenghe de l'empereur Huizong, il devint prêtre taoïste et fut officiellement enregistré au palais Dongxiao dans le comté de Lin'an.
Tang Zixia était passionné de lecture et se consacra à l'étude des doctrines taoïstes. Il compila un jour un ouvrage intitulé : Registre du véritable miroir du paradis de la grotte de Dadi ( Dadong Dongtian Zhenjing Lu ), qui lui valut les éloges de l'empereur Huizong. Il fut ensuite nommé Jintan Lang (un titre officiel taoïste) et prit la direction du palais de Dongxiao.

Plus tard, lorsque la guerre éclata, Tang Zixia resta pour défendre la porte du palais et fut finalement tué.
