Zhou Yinyao était un personnage de la dynastie Tang, portant le nom de courtoisie de Xiyuan.
Durant l'ère Baoli de la dynastie Tang (825-827 ap. J.-C.), il fut abbé du Chongyuan Shengzu Yuan (Cour des ancêtres sages de Chongyuan, une institution taoïste ). Il résida également un temps au mont Baoshan, sur l'île de Dongting, dans le lac Taihu.

Il possédait de profondes capacités taoïstes : il n'adaptait pas son repos au jour et à la nuit, ne modifiait pas l'épaisseur de ses vêtements selon la chaleur et le froid, et ne consommait ni nourriture ni boisson, et pourtant il avait une force bien supérieure à celle des gens ordinaires.
