The Nine Darknesses Heart-Seal Scripture FULL NAME IS
The Supreme Lord Speaks the Wonderful Scripture of the Mind Seal for Redeeming Sins in the Nine Dark Abysses
The author is unknown, and the text is believed to have been composed sometime between the Tang and Song dynasties.
Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Text Category of the Dongzhen Section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).
Purportedly preached by Yuanshi Tianzun (the Primeval Lord of Heaven) to the Perfected One of Rescuing the Afflicted, this scripture aims to free all sentient beings from affliction and distress.
It states: "All sentient beings who are bound by evil karma are trapped by the delusions and inverted thoughts of their own minds, failing to realize the state of non-action (wuwei). All roots of sin arise from the mind; the joys and freedoms of paradise are born of the mind; and the descent into the suffering of the Three Realms also springs from the mind." On this account, Tianzun expounded a four-character verse, exhorting people to rid themselves of greed and desire, purify their bodies and minds, so that they may remain untouched by vexations and attain enlightenment to unite with the Dao.
